We arrived in the town of Kailua-Kona in the mid-afternoon after an extremely long day of travel that started more than 13 hours earlier in our hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. We were given the opportunity to roam the streets for dinner, get acclimated, and embrace some of the local culture. We learned some very valuable lessons regarding local laws, solar intensity, language, and island medicine. One could argue that we learned just as much on this short day as we did on some of our more intense days of sunup to sundown geographical exploration.
